R2 Compliance | What is it?

According to SERI, R2 provides a common set of standard that trading partners use to vet each other for suitability. This standard is recognized internationally. Adherence to this standard is required by many large companies before they will do business with any recycler.

R2 Compliance Issues

The standard requires companies to maintain records about which focus materials have been shipped to whom. These records provide a chain of custody from the purchaser all the way through to the final disposition of the recycled equipment. Maintaining these records has proven difficult for companies without a robust management system including software.

DSV Management

Finding R2 certified or compliant recyclers is just the first step. These downstream vendors (DSVs) must be able to provide you with specific information regarding what and how they recycle. You need to keep copies of these documents in your records and keep track of their expiration dates to make sure you always have valid documents.

You must be able to demonstrate your materials flows through a process called mass balance. This is a report of received materials with information about to which DSV it was shipped.
